The Brown Kitchen - The Versatile feel-good Oasis

The brown kitchen – warm and cosy

The brown kitchen is one of the most exciting contemporary kitchen trends! Brown stands for warmth and cosiness and has an extremely elegant and timeless aesthetic. Its natural allure invites lingering and the celebration of home, cooking and life. Chris Glass’s kitchen is the ideal example. Using clever design details, he manages to imbue the kitchen ambiance with loads of personality. As a designer, interior decorator, moderator and chef, he wants his guests to experience the atmosphere of the design. His kitchen appears natural and harmonious, it feels traditional but also modern. Our tips will inspire you to plan your kitchen with as lively a style as Chris’s feel-good oasis!

Why a brown kitchen:

  • Timeless style
  • Natural elegance
  • Inviting allure
  • Incomparable feel-good factor
  • Stands for relaxation, security and cosiness

Brown: From classic to trendsetter – how to get that modern look

Brown is a colour with almost unlimited design possibilities. This warm and cosy hue enriches any kitchen layout and fits almost every furnishing style. Whether a minimalist built-in kitchen or an opulently decorated L- or U-shaped kitchen, with or without a kitchen island, this earth tone goes with everything, just like a versatile spice! Uniquely grained, dark brown wood sets the tone as a stylistic element, making the kitchen unit itself into a design object which – in just a few handy steps – can be transformed into a personal design piece with the aid of decorations and furnishings. Let’s get started!

Brown & brushed bronze – a match made in heaven

Bronze-coloured, stainless-steel strips on the appliances add a touch of glamour to Chris’s kitchen. An optimal fit for a brown kitchen, they perfectly integrate the NEFF oven into the cabinets and provide a seamless transition to the wooden fronts.

Chris’s cooker hood and hob are also equipped with brushed-bronze side panel strips. And if you ever want to change the style of your kitchen, you can replace the strips at any time – for example, with deep black or anthracite grey strips.

Seamless Combination®

NEFF’s Seamless Combination® takes aesthetics and functionality to a whole new level. With these special connecting strips, there’s no visible gap between appliances. This means that appliances stacked on top of one another (such as an oven and a steam oven) appear to be one appliance and are highlighted by their shared frame. Whether a conventional oven, steam oven, microwave or warming drawer, appliances are slimly and stylishly stacked and the transitions are seamless.

Materials & surfaces: Harmonious mixture of styles

As soon as you enter a brown kitchen, you can already sense the homeliness of the kitchen design. This is due to the modern, handle-free, unadorned wooden kitchen fronts in combination with a light-coloured countertop as a highlight.

When choosing the fronts for the modern brown look, you have the following options:

A built-in NEFF oven and combination microwave with black glass and copper-accented handles are integrated into dark wood kitchen cabinets.
A NEFF built-in oven in a dark wood kitchen, with a tray of roasted chicken and vegetables being smoothly extended from the open oven on a telescopic rail.
A smiling man uses patterned oven mitts to carefully remove a tray of freshly cooked food from a modern, black and copper NEFF oven integrated into a dark wood kitchen.
Solid-wood kitchen fronts and cabinets excel in terms of stability, strength and durability. The natural look, pleasant feel and incomparable fragrance are both calming and inspiring.
Varnish makes wood easier to clean and gives it a glossy or matt finish. However, varnish also closes the wood pores.
Fronts made of MDF with a wood look are an economical alternative that requires less care. However, this means you don’t get the effects of real wood.

Light-coloured countertop with copper fixtures

The countertop is an essential design element that Chris Glass uses to play with contrasts and create a genuine design experience. The work area in his kitchen is brightened by a beige and sand-coloured artificial stone countertop that gives the space a slightly more open feel and is also extremely practical with a water-resistant draining board. Natural stone can serve as a stylish alternative to artificial stone and is available in many different versions and colours.

  • Slate gives the kitchen a rustic beauty by adding a dark accent.
  • White- or gold-veined beige marble elevates the look of the work area to a luxurious new level.

In combination with a light-coloured countertop, deep brown is perfect for adding rich colour accents. The sink, induction hob and matching maximum-headroom cooker hood are elegant eye-catchers. Metallic colour accents like the copper faucet guarantee a glamourous presentation.

Walls & floors – What colour goes with a brown kitchen?

Chris Glass’s kitchen walls are decorated with a muted green that’s soft and earthy. The floor’s grey concrete look adds a modern touch. Alternatives include wooden floorboards, which provide cosiness in a farmhouse kitchen, or parquet, which gives the kitchen a classic elegance.

Wall & floor colours – inspiration and ideas:

To create a modern look, choose a maximum of three kitchen colours as main ingredients to be applied to large surfaces like kitchen fronts, walls and floors. This allows for a decent number of decorative details that give the room its individual charm.

Fantastic inspiration for colour palettes can be found in nature. The different seasons offer examples of nuanced browns as do natural landscapes whose colour spectrum has a powerful effect on observers.

Brown, green and grey create a feeling of safety and security. Nuances of muted tones or pastel colours have a harmonious and calming effect. This is the theme that Chris chose.
Light and warm colour accents communicate a feeling of cosiness and invite lingering. Rust red is more exciting, ochre tones are friendlier.

Decorations & furnishings: Feeling at home is a feeling of well-being

Following extensive preparations – feel free to use our checklist – and after an appointment at the Kitchen Studio, the fun begins as you start decorating and furnishing your kitchen! For the modern design kitchen to fill the space with its radiant beauty, furnishings as well as ideas for careful, decorative details are a must. For Chris Glass, balance is the key. Nothing should stand out, the details should coalesce.

With these combinations of natural materials and colour accents, your brown kitchen will have a delightful ambience:

  • Wooden kitchen utensils emphasise the natural colouring. This includes accessories like a knife block, wooden spoons and cutting boards.
  • Natural stone materials are fantastic eye-catchers, such as a stoneware mortar and pestle.
  • Sparkling metal and copper-coloured fixtures, decorations and kitchen utensils are the icing on the cake.
  • Herbs are an artful and fragrant feast for the eyes.
  • Potted plants enhance the natural flair of a lively and homely design.

Barstools are the secret to a communicative layout. They’re an invitation to share snacks or coffee. Multiple light sources with dimmers provide perfect illumination to create a perfect mood.
